The "victorious prince," Michael, is identified as Jesus Christ, the Archangel, who fights on our behalf. Jesus, in His earthly life, decisively defeated Satan. His victory on the cross over sin and death guarantees our victory in the great spiritual conflict.

As we face the adversities of life, we are not alone. Christ, our Prince, goes before us, interceding for us and strengthening us to fight the good fight. He is our defender, and the final victory is assured, for He has already overcome evil. In His last words to the disciples before His death, Jesus said, "Now is the time for judgment on this world; now the prince of this world will be driven out" (John 12:31). He knew that His death on the cross would mean the definitive defeat of Satan and the redemption of all who believe in Him.
